Research and Professional Writing Interests:

Nutrition

Nutrition impacts the lifespan in health and illness. It is easily tied to all aspects of the nursing process and directly relates to underlying pathologies.

Lupus and Related Syndromes

Delay and/or improper diagnosing any-one of these diseases create frustration for the patient. The delay in diagnosis results in a loss of money. Diseases most interested in are lupus erythematosus and related syndromes, vasculitis syndromes, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and thyroid disease. In recent years, research is showing that diabetes mellitus is an autoimmune disease.

Socratic Learning

I have found that having conversations with students, especially in the clinical setting can often tell me more about their critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills within the nursing process than in a written plan of care.

Faculty Mentoring

I strongly support and advocate for faculty. I enjoy helping faculty to celebrate their role(s) and accomplishments.

I've written a major portion and edited three ACEN Self-Studies and managed these ACEN visits to the campus (1995, 2003, 2011). Assume other assignments as requested by the Program Director. *Development of the Graduate and Faculty Extravaganza (1994). A celebration party for graduates of both ADN and VN Programs that was conducted biannually from 1994-2005 in which faculty "dressed up" as celebrities and performed lip synchs. The process is a published model.

*Development of the Care Group Model (1998). A published model to help students learn basic skills in the introductory nursing course. I developed the model in 1997 and it is still an integral part of the curriculum.

*Introduced Scholarly Writing into the Nursing Curriculum (1996). A published model that helps students to use critical thinking and communication skills as they prepare a formal paper related to their patient in the clinical setting.

*Development of an End of Life Care Interdisciplinary Team Clinical Simulation Model (2006).  A published model to help students embrace interdisciplinary collaboration at the end of life (hospice).
